Announcements

There is no spelling test this week (Dec. 19th).

Our class holiday party will be held on Thurs. Dec. 22,2011 from 1- 2PM. Thank you to all of you who have
offered to send in treats for our party. Your generosity is appreciated.

Classwork this week has focused on use of the words" is" and "are", identification of complete sentences as well as sentence fragments, antonyms, similes, memoir writing, vocabulary development ( specifically words utilizing the root words  brev, cap,ord, san, and phil) , division with and without remainders and division of multiplies of 10,100, and1000.  Students have read and discussed numerous stories and articles independently and in small groups. In science students studied and discussed the diets and teeth structure of herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

A new homework packet was sent home with students on Mon. This packet included work involving the correct use of the words" is" and "are", identification of complete sentences as well as sentence fragments, antonyms and division with and without remainders

Week of De. 12th 2011

Spelling List 9/Lesson 9- words with ur Spelling Test Fri.

Due to the fact that our copier was not operational today this weeks homework packets were
not able to be copied. For this reason students were asked to write out twenty sentences
with each sentence containing one of this weeks spelling words.

Additionally, students were asked to read for thirty minutes and answer the following question in their
writing journal:

For non- fiction stories tell me about something that you learned while reading that
surprised you.

For fiction stories- Compare yourself to one of the characters in the story you are reading
and tell me how you are similar to or different from that person.

Homework will be due on Friday morning.

Week of Dec. 5th 2011

There will be spelling test this week - words with the  är sound- sight words list 6- pages 34 and 35 in the spelling practice book.

Parent /Teacher/student conferences have been schedule and a reminder slip of the times of each conference was sent home on Monday. Please feel free to contact me if 
there is a need to reschedule your conference or if you did not receive a reminder slip. 

Our Science unit of study "Living Things" is continuing. This weeks focus inherited, learn or acquired traits and behaviors. 

In math we have been to study addition and subtraction expressions using variables, patterns, word problems and continued practice of 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication.
